Tavern Sloppy Joes

Tavern Sloppy Joes are simple, savory and perfect for a quick family meal.

Tavern Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes are a classic American comfort food featuring a savory, slightly sweet ground meat filling served on a hamburger bun. They are one of the most famous “loose meat” sandwiches.

They are believed to have originated in the United States in the early 20th century. The most widely accepted story is that they were invented in the 1930s in a bar or restaurant in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tips

  • Customize the filling by adding diced tomatoes, hot sauce, or other seasonings.
  • For a healthier version, use ground turkey or chicken.
  • Serve with a side of coleslaw, chips or French fries for a complete meal.
