Helpful Tips for Making Delicious Biscuits

Use Cold Butter: Unless your recipe calls for melted butter, keep your butter cold and cut it into small pieces before adding it to the flour. Cold butter creates flaky layers.

Don’t Overmix: Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined. Overmixing can make biscuits dense instead of tender.

Use Fresh Baking Powder or Baking Soda: Unless you are using a baking mix, ensure your leavening agents are fresh for proper rising.

Handle Dough Gently: Pat the dough into shape gently and avoid pressing down too hard, which can deflate the biscuits.

Keep Dough Cold: Refrigerate the dough for a few minutes if it becomes sticky, which helps with layering and rising.

Use the Right Flour: All-purpose flour works well; for extra tenderness, you can substitute part of it with cake flour.

Cut Biscuits Properly: Use a sharp cutter and press straight down without twisting to help biscuits rise evenly.

Preheat the Oven: Make sure your oven is fully preheated to ensure a good rise.

Bake Until Golden: Bake until the tops are golden brown and biscuits sound hollow when tapped.

Experiment and Adjust: Every oven is different, so keep notes and adjust baking time or temperature as needed.
