Shoyu Chicken

Shoyu chicken is a popular Hawaiian dish that features chicken marinated or cooked in a savory soy sauce-based marinade. “Shoyu” is the Japanese word for soy sauce, reflecting the dish’s Japanese influence. The chicken is typically simmered or braised until tender, resulting in a flavorful, slightly sweet, and salty dish. It is often served with steamed rice and sometimes accompanied by vegetables or pickles. Shoyu chicken is a staple in Hawaiian cuisine, enjoyed for its rich, umami flavor and comforting taste.
