Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings
Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings were the rage a few years back, and they are still something to brag about!

This is a classic, comforting dessert made from tender apple wedges wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough, then baked in a sweet, bubbly sauce made from melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, and — surprisingly — Mountain Dew. As the Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings bake, the citrus-caramel soda mixture thickens into a glossy syrup that soaks into the dumplings, creating a golden, slightly crisp exterior and a soft, cinnamon-spiced apple center. The result is a rich, gooey, aromatic treat that tastes like a cross between apple pie and warm cinnamon rolls, with a subtle citrus lift that keeps each bite bright and irresistible.
Fun and delicious variations of Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings
Classic Fruit Variations
- Peach Dew Dumplings – Use fresh or canned peach slices instead of apples. The softer fruit makes for an extra-juicy dumpling.
- Pear Dew Dumplings – Swap apples for ripe pears for a mellow, honey-like flavor that pairs wonderfully with cinnamon.
- Mixed-Fruit Dumplings – Combine apples with berries, peaches, or cherries for a colorful, jammy filling.
Soda and Liquid Variations
- Lemon-Lime Twist – Use Sprite or 7-Up instead of Mountain Dew for a brighter citrus flavor.
- Orange Cream Dumplings – Use Orange Fanta or Sunkist; add a splash of vanilla extract for a creamsicle vibe.
- Spiced Ginger Dumplings – Use ginger ale and add a pinch of ground ginger for a warm, spiced note.
Flavor Variations
- Caramel Apple Dumplings – Drizzle caramel sauce over the dumplings before baking, or toss the apples in caramel bits.
- Maple Cinnamon Dumplings – Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup to the butter-sugar mixture for deep fall flavor.
- Brown Sugar–Bourbon Dumplings – Add a tablespoon of bourbon to the syrup mixture (alcohol cooks off, flavor stays).
Spices and Add-Ins
- Apple Pie Spice Dumplings – Use apple pie spice instead of plain cinnamon for more complexity.
- Nutty Crunch Dumplings – Add chopped pecans or walnuts inside the dumpling or sprinkle on top before baking.
- Cinnamon-Roll Dumplings – Brush the crescent dough with a bit of butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar before wrapping the apples.
Dessert Variations
- Apple Cinnamon Cheesecake Dumplings – Put a spoonful of sweetened cream cheese inside each roll with the apple slice.
- Chocolate-Caramel Dumplings – Add a few chocolate chips and a drizzle of caramel inside the dumpling.
- Apple Crisp Dumplings – Sprinkle an oat streusel on top for a crumble-like finish.
Savory-Sweet Variations
- Rosemary Honey Dumplings – Add a tiny pinch of rosemary and a drizzle of honey to the syrup for a rustic, gourmet twist.
- Salted Butter Dumplings – Use salted butter and sprinkle flaky sea salt on top—gives amazing sweet-salty balance.
