Horseradish is a white root vegetable, and it has been making dining experiences more joyful over the years.

Horseradish Cream Sauce has many uses, but perhaps the most famous are for serving with Prime Rib or Corned Beef and Cabbage.

About this sauce…

You may add 1/8 cup blue cheese to this sauce, if desired.

Prepare ahead of time and let it chill. The longer it sits, the more the flavors meld.

Smoked paprika would be excellent in this sauce, especially if used with pork or poultry.  It would great with

Use fresh dill or tarragon instead of chives, and serve with Salmon Patties in the Air Fryer

It will keep for 1 to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

We won’t get into it here, but horseradish is said to have antioxidant properties.

Horseradish Cream Sauce is delicious…

  • on roast beef sandwiches
  • with corned beef and cabbage
  • swirled into mashed potatoes
  • mixed into potato salad
  • used on meat sandwiches instead of mayonnaise
  • on French Dip sandwiches or sliders
  • on grilled pork tenderloins
  • on grilled potatoes
  • served with pork loin

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup horseradish, drained
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • 1 green onion top, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh garlic
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Mix together all ingredients with a wire whip; cover and chill.
