Herman Friendship Cake
A Herman Friendship Cake is a flavorful baked treat that features a rich, moist texture with a combination of sweet ingredients. It optionally includes raisins, diced apple, chocolate chips or nuts, or any combination thereof. It may be topped with icing, glaze or confectioners’ sugar if desired.

Herman Cake is a type of community or friendship cake that is shared and nurtured among friends and family. It is a sourdough-style cake that involves a starter—a mixture of flour, sugar, milk and yeast—that is kept and passed around, with each person adding ingredients over time. The starter develops flavors and can be used to bake delicious cakes and other baked goods once it has matured.
The tradition of Herman cake often involves a social aspect, where participants share the starter and enjoy baking together, creating a sense of community. The resulting cake is usually sweet, moist and often includes ingredients like nuts, fruits or chocolate.
