Frosted Molasses Creams
I got this wonderful recipe from a fellow juror when I served on the 40th Maricopa County, Arizona, Grand Jury back in the 1980’s.
Ingredients
Bars
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup hot coffee
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
Frosting
1/4 cup butter, creamed
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons warm coffee
Instructions
Bars
- Â Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.*
- Â Cream shortening and sugar.
- Blend in eggs, molasses and coffee.
- Add remaining ingredients and blend well.
- Pour into the prepared baking pan.
- Â Bake or about 20 to 25 minutes. Check for doneness.
- Â Frost while warm.
Frosting
- Â Mix until smooth.
