  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 to 4 long half loaves

  • Mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • Toppings desired

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

  3. Slice loaves of bread in half lengthwise and set on baking sheet, cut side up.
  4. Top with pizza sauce, then add mozzarella or provolone or any cheese you like.
  5. Top with your favorite toppings.
  6. Bake for about 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted, gooey and, if you like, slightly browned.

Notes

Ciabatta bread comes in the square form. It’s also great to use for this pizza, and it has a nice “chew” to it.

Variations for French Loaf Pizza

Taco French Loaf Pizza

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (1-ounce) packet taco seasoning mix or homemade Taco Seasoning
  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 1 (16-ounce) can refried beans
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • 1 (4-ounce) can black olives, sliced
  • 2 green onions, sliced thin

Follow the baking instructions above, but do the following:

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, while crumbling it, until it is no longer pink, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Add the taco seasoning mix to the ground beef and cook according to the package directions.
  3. Place the bread halves, cut-side up, onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Place the refried beans in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave them on the high setting, until they are warm, cooking in 30 second increments.
  5. Evenly spread the refried beans over the bread halves.
  6. Top the refried beans with the beef mixture.
  7. Top the beef mixture with the cheese, tomatoes, black olives and green onion.

Cajun Crawfish or Shrimp French Loaf Pizza

  • 1 pound crawfish tails or small shrimp, peeled
  • Salt
  • Red pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Jalapeno peppers, sliced
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Follow the baking instructions above, but do the following:

  1. Season the crawfish or shrimp with salt, red pepper and garlic powder.
  2. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the two half loaves of bread.
  3. Add crawfish or shrimp, onions and jalapeno peppers.
  4. Cover with a layer of mozzarella cheese.

Note: if fresh jalapeno peppers are too hot for you, use canned diced chiles.

Barbecue Chicken French Loaf Pizza

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into small, bite-size pieces
  • 1 teaspoon Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup + 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce, divided
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Follow the baking instructions above, but do the following:

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons olive or avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté chicken until nearly cooked through. Season with seasoning salt and freshly ground pepper as it cooks.
  2. Add 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce; reduce heat to medium, and continue to simmer for 3 or 4 minutes, until chicken is thoroughly cooked and sauce has thickened. Remove skillet from heat and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl combine remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce and marinara. Coat each half of bread with the sauce mixture.
  4. Divide chicken evenly between bread. Top with sliced red onions. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and Cheddar.

Hawaiian French Loaf Pizza

  • 1 3/4 cups (7 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups leftover cubed sliced ham
  • 1/2 cup drained canned pineapple tidbits in juice

Follow the baking instructions above, but do the following:

  1. Top with pizza sauce, half of the cheese, the ham, pineapple and remaining cheese.
  2. Bake for 10 minutes longer or until crust is deep golden brown and cheese is melted.
