Egg Noodles
Homemade Egg Noodles are a type of pasta made primarily from eggs and flour, often with a touch of salt.
They are known for their rich flavor, chewy texture, and versatility in various dishes such as soups, stir-fries, and casseroles. Making egg noodles from scratch can be a simple process that yields delicious results.
Basic Ingredients for Egg Noodles
- Eggs: Typically, for every cup of flour, you use one large egg.
- Flour: All-purpose flour is commonly used, but you can also mix in semolina for added texture.
- Salt: A pinch of salt is often added for flavor.
Basic Preparation Steps
- Mixing: Combine the flour and salt in a bowl, creating a well in the center to add the eggs.
- Kneading: Gradually mix the flour into the eggs until a dough forms, then knead the dough on a floured surface until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Resting: Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes to relax the gluten, making it easier to roll out.
- Rolling: Roll the dough out thinly with a rolling pin or pasta machine to your desired thickness.
- Cutting: Use a knife or a pizza cutter to slice the dough into your preferred noodle shape, whether it’s wide for lasagna or thin for fettuccine.
- Cooking: Fresh egg noodles typically take only a few minutes to cook in boiling water.
