Easy Refried Beans

If you need refried beans in a hurry, Easy Refried Beans is a darned good recipe. It rivals most restaurant refried beans that I’ve eaten.

Easy Refried Beans

Refried beans are so versatile that they can be used in a variety of dishes.

How to use refried beans…

  • Tacos and Burritos: Spread refried beans as a base layer in tacos and burritos. They add creaminess and a hearty texture.
  • Nachos: Use refried beans as one of the layers on nachos. Top with cheese, jalapeños and other toppings before baking.
  • Enchiladas: Fill tortillas with refried beans, cheese, and other ingredients, roll them up, and place them in a baking dish. Top with enchilada sauce and cheese, then bake.
  • Quesadillas: Spread refried beans inside a tortilla with cheese and any other fillings. Cook on a skillet until the tortilla is crispy and the cheese is melted.
  • Dip: Warm the refried beans and serve them as a dip with tortilla chips. You can add toppings like sour cream, guacamole, salsa or cheese.
  • Side Dish: Serve refried beans as a side to complement rice, grilled meats or other main dishes.
  • Breakfast: Incorporate refried beans into a breakfast burrito or serve them with eggs and tortilla on the side for a hearty breakfast.
  • Fried Rice: Stir refried beans into fried rice for added protein and flavor.
  • Soups and Stews: Use them to thicken soups and stews, or as a base for a bean soup.
  • Veggie Burgers: Mix refried beans into veggie burger mixtures for added moisture, flavor and protein.

  • Author: Linda Jolly
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Category: Side Dish
  • Method: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Southwestern

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can pinto beans, drained
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1 teaspoon fresh garlic paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 can water

Instructions

  1. Fry bacon until crisp.
  2. Add beans to bacon and bacon grease. Add garlic paste, cumin and water.
  3. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are less liquid.
  4. Begin mashing the beans. You may have to add a little more oil to start the re-fry process. When they are as you like them, remove from the heat.

Notes

I usually mash about half of the beans, leaving the remaining beans whole.
