Classic Watergate Salad

This vintage recipe was developed by Kraft in 1975.

Classic Watergate salad is a sweet, fluffy dessert salad that became popular in the United States in the 1970s. It is typically made with a mixture of pistachio pudding mix, crushed pineapple, miniature marshmallows and whipped topping (such as Cool Whip). Some variations may also include chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, and shredded coconut.

The salad is named after the Watergate Hotel, where the dish is said to have been created, though its exact origin is somewhat unclear. It is often served at potlucks, picnics, and holiday gatherings, appreciated for its unique combination of flavors and textures. The green color from the pistachio pudding gives it a distinctive appearance, which contributes to its appeal.
