Chocolate Toffee Squares
These cookies have a buttery shortbread layer, a chocolate layer, then a crunchy toffee and nut layer.
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
1 (6 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (8 ounce) bag Heath Bits o’ Brickle English Toffee Baking Bits
3⁄4 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
- Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg yolk, vanilla extract and salt.
- Blend well.
- Beat in flour just until combined.
- Turn into prepared pan, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips.
- When chocolate chips have melted, spread with an offset spatula, and sprinkle with English Toffee baking bits and walnuts.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
- Store covered in the refrigerator.
