Mexican Street Corn is grilled sweet corn on the cob, basted with mayonnaise, then sprinkled with spices and cotija cheese. It is a very popular street food in Mexico, usually served on a wooden stick.

Bubble and Squeak
Bubble and Squeak is a traditional English dish made with the leftover vegetables from a dinner. Carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts, or any other leftover vegetables may be added. It bubbles and squeaks as it is cooking! It is served as a breakfast dish. Howard Hillman classes this as one of the “great peasant dishes of the world.” In place of the bacon, you can used cooked and crumbled breakfast sausage.

Pastitsio
I suppose this could be called the comfort food of Greek cooking. Pastitsio uses a béchamel sauce, one of the five mother sauces. My sister and I absolutely love this, and we used to make it when we got together. I also eat it at the St. Katherine’s Greek Festival every year.

Picadillo (Mexican-Style Ground Beef)
Ground beef and potatoes are simmered in seasoned tomato sauce. This dish is popular in Mexico and in the Philippines.

Sachertorte (Chocolate Torte)
This recipe was invented by Franz Sacher, once a Viennese court cook. Viennese homemakers like to bake a Sachertorte to accompany afternoon coffee, and they usually serve it decorated with whipped cream. It is traditional to write “Sacher” over the top of the cake.

Basque Sheepherder’s Bread
We like to serve the whole loaf of Basque Sheepherder’s Bread at the table, letting guests tear off what they want, and dipping into single servings of warm olive oil infused with herbs (Italian Bread Dip). The bread shown was baked over an open fire, out on the range using hot coals on top and bottom of Dutch oven.

Focaccia
The first time I ever tasted “Roman bread” was at Monti’s la Casa Vieja in Tempe, Arizona. I vowed to find a good recipe and tweak it to my liking, and this is the result. There is nothing quite like Italian Garlic-Cheese Bread.

Turon
Turon is a Filipino snack made of thinly sliced bananas, dusted with brown sugar, rolled in a spring roll wrapper and fried. Other fillings can also be used together with the banana, such as jackfruit, sweet potato, mango, Cheddar cheese and coconut.
