Ingredients

Bread Pudding4 cups day-old bread crumbs 2 cups milk 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup raisins (optional) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Ground cinnamon for top Vanilla Sauce1 cup granulated sugar 3 teaspoons cornstarch 1 tablespoon butter 1 1/2 cups boiling water 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Bread Pudding

  1. Place bread crumbs into a buttered 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, scald milk, then add butter, sugar, eggs, salt, raisins and vanilla extract. Blend well.
  3. Pour over the bread crumbs; sprinkle with cinnamon.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until top is golden.
  5. Cut into squares and serve with warm vanilla sauce.

Vanilla Sauce

  1. Mix together sugar and cornstarch well.
  2. Add butter, boiling water and vanilla extract; cook stirring constantly, until thickened but pourable.
