Cheddar Bay Bread

Cheddar Bay Bread recipe

Cheddar Bay Bread is a delicious, cheesy, buttery bread inspired by the famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster.

Ingredients

Units Scale
2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded 1 cup milk 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter or sour cream 1 large egg 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing on top) 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for brushing on top)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Oil the inside of a round Pyrex casserole dish and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder and salt.
  3. Stir in the shredded Cheddar cheese until it’s coated with the flour mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sour cream (or melted butter) and egg until combined.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix together using a spoon or silicon spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared Pyrex dish, smoothing it into an even layer.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the loaf is golden brown and a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the loaf is baking, mix together the melted butter with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for the topping.
  9. Remove the loaf from the oven and immediately brush the top with the garlic butter mixture.
  10. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool slightly.

Notes

We like to sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese over the top of the loaf about five minutes before the end of baking time.
