One of the most delightful Italian desserts! Affogato means “drowned” in Italian. In this case, gelato is “drowned” in espresso and flavored syrup. The flavor combinations are almost endless.
Use any flavor syrup desired, as long as it is compatible with the gelato flavor and with espresso or coffee.
Ice cream may be used instead of gelato. That is perfectly fine, but it is not the Italian way.
You can use other brands of syrup, but I have found that Torani is the best.
